Mind your music run three groups in the form of weekly workshops at factory studios in Barton Hill Bristol. We play versions of popular covers agreed on by group members and a variety of original music drawing influences from reggae, gospel, blues, folk and world music as well as originals by group members. All of these groups are on a Monday - 11am -1.15 (newcomers and early risers) 1.15-3.15 (established members) 3.30-5.30 (established members and those who cant make Group 1)
Some of our members play instruments, from guitar to cello, piano and percussion, bass, mandolin and mandocello, lots of our members like to sing, and some just listen. or may be interested in writing lyrics.
Everyone supports everyone else, from making the tea and coffees to listening to each other's music and helping people feel valued.
Once every month we have an 'open mic circle' to which all groups are invited, where people can play their own music or sing karaoke style to the rest of the groups, and these sessions are always from 1-5pm.
We have a fully amplified PA system and microphones in place and instruments that can be borrowed. You don't need any previous experience just a willingness to try different things and have fun.
To register for a workshop contact us with your name, email address and number, or you can register on someone else's behalf. Care co-ordinators are welcome to accompany interested members.
We realise and value the importance of friendship at Mind Your Music, and at every workshop we encourage regular coffee breaks where our members can socialise and chat with each other, or they can approach one of us if they just want a friendly ear.
We also put on social gatherings a couple of times a year - a Summer picnic and a Christmas party, and occasionally we'll organise an event to mark a special birthday. These events always include live music, free food and an opportunity to perform.
Our christmas party for 2019 is at The Elephant House Bedminster on December 20th and if you would like to come along please contact us to register your interest. Everyone is welcome.
FESTIVALS AND GIGS.
Every six months or so we put on a grand show, in the form of performances from everyone involved in Mind Your Music, often shared with our sister organisation Stepping Out Theatre. These shows have been in various places from community halls to outside festivals, but this year our summer festival was in the glorious Kingsweston House, where we held a spectacular whole day event with bands all day and free hot and cold buffet.
Everyone gets the chance to perform at these events, and we partied long into the night with live music being performed around the piano until the end.
